www.interneteyes.co.uk The CCTV Game

cctv

When I first saw this I thought it was a joke but nope the plan is that you really will be able to spend endless hours having fun watching mind numbing CCTV footage in the hope that somebody will commit a petty crime. On the plus side if you do catch someone committing a crime you ‘could’ win £1000.

This is a new online ‘game’ which will allow just about anybody to watch a selection of CCTV camera’s across the country and keep an eye out for crime. If you spot and report a crime you could win up to £1000. Personally I think there is something a little bit scary about this project and I think it does raise a few issues including questions about the nations privacy. But in another way it kind of makes sense. There are all those CCTV camera’s out there and who is really using them and how many crimes do go unnoticed? Would it really better for us to watch each other rather than just the state watching and assessing us? Or is this scheme capitalizing on an already imposing method of crime prevention by making us spy on ourselves? I don’t think I’ll be partaking in this one. Britain appears to be leading the way into a CCTV monitored big brother style nation and the fact that enterprises like this exist is quite amazing. Apparently there is an estimated one camera for every 14 people in the UK.
