Wonderland Magazine’s New Website
Thursday, October 29th, 2009I can’t sleep tonight and I’ve just stumbled across Wonderland Magazine’s new website which has kept me up a bit longer. I think this site is perfect for fashion driven magazine’s like Wonderland. Although it’s not ground breaking in its layout the whole site feels very much as though it is constantly evolving and documenting an ever changingĀ cultural environment – what a perfect reflection of the fashion industry! http://www.wonderlandmagazine.com/
Designed By Music
Tuesday, October 27th, 2009I’ve been a fan of the work created by creative agency ‘Love‘ in Manchester for quite some time. Some of the founders of ‘Love’ have now founded a new agency named: ‘Music‘. Perhaps this is one reason why I’ve really taken a liking to the work produced by ‘Music‘. Music is such a brilliant name for a creative agency when you think about it, as design like music is just another way of conveying something like an idea, feeling or emotion. I really like how music’s site works too, it’s like a big wall of design to navigate around. Take a look at their work here: www.designbymusic.com
Musical stairs, brilliant idea!
Friday, October 16th, 2009A fun musical interactive experiment to try and get people to use the stairs more often.
“Because clicking is so 90′s!”
Friday, October 16th, 2009Aside from being an absolutely gorgeous site design Andreas Lutz’s website is also impressive because the user can interact with it through voice and gestures. Using your webcam you can use hand movements to navigate through his portfolio of music, site design and games. You can also use voice activation to navigate from one section to another for example by saying “music” you can be taken to the music section. This site is just really impressive, check it out!
La Roux’s ace website
Friday, August 21st, 2009It’s three in the morning and I’ve just stumbled upon La Roux’s website, which I think is awesome by the way! I found it through http://www.waste-creative.com/ a creative agency based in London. The look and feel of La Roux’s website really reminds me of Bladerunner the movie and especially the game. For quite some time I was obsessed with that film. The amazingly seedy and grimy scenes of future city life are truely amazing. The game which was based on the movie really captured the dystopian atmosphere with excellent animated scenes painstakingly recreated from the movie with brilliant sound effects too. Anyway back to La Roux, when I think about it La Roux’s style really ties in well with Bladerunner’s 80′s perspective on the future. Everything from La Roux’s fashion styles, album artwork and even her haircut seem to be a more popy take on an 80′s view of futuristic, does that make sense? Anyway I think the main reason I like the site so much is because it really capture’s the ‘bladerunneresque’ atmosphere very well. www.laroux.co.uk
i-D Soul
Sunday, August 16th, 2009I started reading this book back in July whilst on holiday and I absolutely loved it. If you’re a fan of i-D magazine then you’ll definitely love this book, the idea is simple as stated on the first page: “300 of i-D’s best loved international contributors and collaborators share their ideas and thoughts on contemporary values”. The book has six chapters or theme’s to which the i-D contributors seem to have been asked to respond in a way they deem appropriate. So the book is full of photo’s, quotes, short statements, poems and stories from an array of people from all over the world. As is to be expected most of the contributors are involved in creative industries and fashion in some form or another and I’ve found it incredibly interesting to read through their thoughts and ideas concerning important modern social questions. As an idea for a book it is brilliant. Go buy it! http://www.taschen.com
Project Space Leeds
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009Artwork by nousvous.eu
Last night I went to a private view held by http://www.projectspaceleeds.org.uk, it was brilliant! A group of Leeds based artists had been brought together to exhibit work for the theme ‘Morphic Resonance’. The main question driving the exhibition was: ‘How is there space for artists in our cultural landscape?’. Being quite new to Leeds I was chuffed to discover so many proffessional artists attending the event and contributing. A piece of work which has really stuck in my mind involved a video of a whole room slowly filling up with water, which was somehow transfixing. The video was very slow, but somehow this made it feel all the more interesting as though you were being given a private insight into something very unusual and something your not likely to see again. As that piece suggests, there was a lot of work relating to space and how modern artists interact and percieve this space. Nous Vous produced the promotional artwork for the event and also exhibited. Their work never ceases to impress espcecialy their impeccable typography.

Constructive lives
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009Spotted this eye catching shop design in Grafik magazine recently. The store is located on portobello road amongst a stack of brightly coloured unusual shop designs, however I’m betting this store front still stands out from the crowd. Aparantly the shapes are inspired by a form of south african art, drawing inspiration from the cultural diversity of the its imediate area. In my opinion the designs definetly have a ‘pixel art’ look to them making this hop front literally outstanding, relevant and very cool. You can see the store websie here: http://www.constructivelives.com/ (oh and by the way itsĀ a furniture shop and constructive live is its title!). The art directors/designers website is here: http://www.multistorey.net/
